Annual Christmas run celebrates volunteers and community safety efforts
The growing festive tradition saw patrollers, first responders and supporters come together to recognise service, deliver gifts and strengthen bonds between safety volunteers and residents.
The Lyttelton streets lit up with the sounds and sights in the celebration of the 5th annual Lyttelton Crime Stop (LCS) Christmas cheer run on Saturday afternoon.
Organised by LCS and other patrollers, the Christmas run is growing each year.
Stacey Spangenberg from LCS said this event is eagerly anticipated by their members, both young and old, and is truly a festive feel-good story.
Spangenberg added that for the fifth consecutive year, LCS arranged for Father Christmas to bring the festive spirit to all its members.
“LCS enjoys the support of local security companies, emergency services, and first responders every year. In our 18th year, we welcome to our convoy and our ranks the patrollers from AfriForum and EBS security,” Spangenberg continued.

During this Christmas run, Father Christmas had an extra special stop – at a member who celebrated his 70th birthday this week.
After handing over a gift, directly from the North Pole to Oupa Fanie le Roux, it was back on the road to spread cheer to the children of LCS.
Father Christmas handed over his last sweet packet at 20:43 precisely to the kids in Union Avenue, Lyttelton, and then ‘flew’ back to headquarters to regroup for the next leg of his journey.

LCS is a non-profit organisation with more than 700 members that has been operational since 2007. It is run by a management team of five.
Spangenberg said they operate with 36 registered patrollers, who run a monthly roster for patrols, seven days a week.
“Each patroller volunteers their personal time in an attempt to keep our community safe from harm.
“Every year, we rely on our members and local businesses to support our efforts with the Christmas run.”
With this in mind, the management team of Lyttelton Crime Stop NW took the opportunity to thank businesses and members alike for their generous donations, which enabled LCS to make the Christmas Run a reality this year.
