French school opens doors to students
As a modern language, French is spoken on five continents.
The Alliance Française de Pretoria hosted its annual Open Day at its Sunnyside Campus this past Saturday, focusing on all things French.
Dozens of visitors from far and wide visited the school’s premises to start the year off with learning the new language or improving pre-existing skills.
School director Frank Chabasseur says the open day serves as a platform to showcase the various classes for children and adults, as well as other services like translations and interpretations.
Aside from the one at the beginning of the year, the school also hosts an open day in August.
“This year, we saw better attendance compared to how many people registered last year; this is much higher. So we expect those who registered or expressed interest to come, will come. Of course, what’s online and what’s reality are two different things, but we expect to exceed the people who came last year,” Chabasseur says.

Cahasseur says that as a modern language, French is spoken on five continents, and across Africa, so the school welcomes learners across the spectrum.
The school welcomes professionals and diplomats from the Congo, Guinea, Gabon, Tunisia, Cameroon, Senegal, and many other French-speaking nations.
The school looks forward to welcoming various writers and speakers this year to engage with students regarding the curriculum, so much of which is being taught at a matric level in local schools.
If you missed the Open Day, the school will still be able to help you register for a class during the week, anytime Monday–Thursday 08:30–17:00 or Friday 08:30–12:00.
