Organiser and President of Gobusa Batho Community Forum, Sphiwe Khoza said the day was all about restoring the dignity of the elderly.
Khoza said the Human Rights Day was a day of warmth and honour for the elders of Pienaarspoort.
“Our elders are the foundation of our community and celebrating Human Rights Day by providing them with comfort and acknowledging their presence is the highest form of service we can offer,” said Khoza.
Different organisations in Pienaarspoort joined the celebration, from the Peaceful Pathway Foundation, Gobusa Batho Community Forum, and the Paul’s Mission Community Development.
The MMC of Economic Development and Spatial Planning, Sarah Mabotsa was also in attendance.
Khoza said the event focused on the theme of ‘Dignity and Inclusion’ that reached its ambitious target of hosting 250 local elders.
He said the day was more than just a ceremony; it was a physical manifestation of the community’s commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of its most cherished members.
“The highlight of the programme was the distribution of gifts designed for comfort and care, a symbolic gesture of the warmth and respect the elderly people deserve within our society,” said Khoza.
He added that this success was made possible through the unified efforts of the organisations that worked tirelessly to pool resources for the beneficiaries.
