A resident writes: I am writing in connection with a terrible and evil event that happened to the disabled learner on 15 September.
I am so angry I can’t sit still since my 9-year-old told me about this and I later saw a footage of the incident on the internet.
I hope, pray and wish that all the perpetrators are dismissed and locked up in jail for a long time.
I will also use this opportunity to ask for help in building a home for the disabled children.
I am not talking about schools, but home care centres. People are talking, shouting and singing that we need to stop women and child abuse. But, why are we selective? What we are doing currently is “an abuse”.
Never heard anyone ever mentioning women mothering the disabled children. These women need more than monthly support grants paid to them/their disabled kids.
These women need to have home care centres for their children so they can go find work to support their families, as 90% of them do not have husbands.
Sometimes they lock these children in the house so they can go to work – my young boys and I visit these families once a month).
I contacted the department of education, which advised me to contact the department of health and was taken from pillar to post until today.
Are we turning a blind eye to reality? Where is Ubuntu, Africanism? Are we now seeing ourselves as better women than the ones mothering the disabled kids? Is it because we have already passed a judgment that these kids will never become future presidents, pilots, and rugby players.
Please let’s come back to reality and remember our African values!
