The 14th annual Jab Jabu seven-a-side Soccer tournament will take place at the Mamelodi West Central sports grounds on 1 May from 08:00 to 17:00.
The soccer tournament will once again provide basic health care screening for all its players and supporters. Organisers expect to attract more than 80 teams and 800 players this year.
The tests will be conducted by Old Mutual group schemes, and will include blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol checks. “The tournament has grown at a reasonable pace over the years, witnessing various multi-racial teams taking part and our legend soccer stars interacting with the youth,” tournament organiser Jabulane Hlalethoa said.
Hlalethoa added that the tournament has enjoyed great support from Tshwane and Gauteng residents. “Over the past 13 years we have seen growth in both participants and supporters,” he said.
Major sponsors for this year’s tournament include Nedbank, Old Mutual group schemes, Australian Gaming Industry Africa and other private sector industry leaders.
The registration fee is R1 500 with great prizes on offer: 1st Prize is R18 000 and gold medals, 2nd Prize is R9 000 and silver medals, 3rd and 4th is R2 500.
The registration fee for the Masters is also R1 500, offering the following prizes: 1st Prize is R10 000, 2nd Prize is R5 000, 3rd and 4th is R2 500.
Under 19 registration fee is R750 with the 1st Prize is R2 000, and the 2nd Prize is R1 000. Under 13 registration fee is R500 and the 1st prize is a full soccer kit and gold medals and the 2nd prize silver medals.
