Sport Highlights 28-30 August

Athletics, Netball, rugby and soccer are the different sports on the main menu when the weekend's action are considered.

Although there is other action to look forward to, the people of Pretoria’s biggest event this weekend will be the SPAR woman’s race in Centurion.

Rugby

With Rugby World Cup now fast approaching, South Africans will find out this weekend what the teams looks like that will represent them in England. The official announcement of the team will start at 17:30.

The Currie Cup also continues this weekend. On Friday night at 19:10 the Free State will take on WP in Bloemfontein, while the Lions and the Pumas will battle things out in Nelspruit.

On Saturday, the action starts at 15:00 in Kimberley with a rematch between Griekwas and the Blue Bulls. At 17:05 the EP Kings and the Sharks will have their rematch in Port Elizabeth.

Athletics

All roads leads to SuperSport Park in Centurion on Saturday afternoon, where the SPAR woman’s race will start at 14:00.

The organizers already announced they will not be able to enter more participants as a full field of 25 000 was already reached with the pre-entries. This is officially the biggest road race in South Africa.

The IAAF World Championships for Track and Field athletics is still in progress and the action will continue until Sunday 30 August.

Netball

The SPAR Netball Championships started on Monday at the Ugu Sports Centre in Margate. This tournament is the premier provincial competition in South Africa. The final will be played on Saturday 29 August.

Soccer

In the MTN8 league, two games will be played this weekend. At the FNB stadium in Johannesburg Kaizer Chiefs will play against Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday 29 August. The game starts as 20:15.

The other game in this league will be played on Sunday at the Bidvest Stadium on the Wits campus. Wits will take on Ajax Cape Town at 15:00.
