Bafana Bafana’s humiliating loss to Mauritania has angered many South Africans with some calling for transformation.
Twittersphere was ablaze on Saturday evening after Bafana’s 3-1 defeat at Mauritania who are ranked 114 in the world.
Some called for transformation while others just poked fun at the team.
The transformation debate is the hangover from when the Springboks loss to Argentina last month.
@iRealMasego said Bafana Bafana is the reason why the rand keeps falling.
A ‘schoolboy’ error by Bafana keeper Itumeleng Khune gifted the host the lead in the fifth minute and a red card to debutant Siyabonga Zulu saw Bafana reduced to 10 men.
Bafana equalised in the second half but their joy was short-lived when Mauritania hit back with two quick goals to send the crowd into raptures.
Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba however, blamed his loss on the heat and injuries.
“I have never seen my team play like they did, this was not a very impressive performance. Nothing went our way and even the heat did not assist. We managed to hold on after they took the lead, and were even able to equalise. They scored soft goals after the red card and the entire defence was in tatters as players picked up injuries.”
Bafana Bafana now sit in the bottom spot of group M with only a point from two games. They next meet on-form and rejuvenated Cameroon.
