Military volleyball teams win national championships
Two teams of the Pretoria Military Volleyball Club have won gold medals at the recent annual South African National Defence Force Volleyball Championships.
The Pretoria Military Volleyball Club has again given a good account of themselves at the the recent annual South African National Defence Force 2015 Volleyball Championships.
This event was held in Cape Town and the club sent three teams to represent Gauteng.
In the women’s divisions, the Gauteng team won the bronze medal after ending in third place.
Both the master’s men team and the senior men team achieved first position and received gold medals.
This was the fourth year in a row that the senior men’s team has won a gold medal.
These men played against the team of the Northern Cape in the final match. Their opponents took the first two sets and were leading in the third set eight points to two points.
Slowly the team from Gauteng started to fire on all cylinders and started taking back the lead and finally managed to win in a nail-biter three sets against two.
The team from Gauteng was appointed as the best-dressed team looking and playing like professionals, thanks to a sponsorship from McCarthy General Motors in Silverton.
Six players of the team were selected for the different National Defence Force teams afterwards. Coach Billy Coetzee was selected as the national team coach and Rudolph du Plessis as manager. Four individual trophies were also won by the following players:
* Pine Pienaar – best blocker senior division.
* Albert Mashele – best spiker senior division.
* Naresh Lalla – best setter master division.
* Bion van Rooyen – best blocker master division.
