Tricky weekend fixtures for United and Downs
Supersport have been the best side in the country for the past month, having claimed wins over Pirates and Sundowns.
Supersport United and Mamelodi Sundowns are both in action this weekend in the Absa Premier League campaign.
Both Tshwane teams have been on form of late.
Players are much aware that a win is crucial at this stage of the year, especially with congested fixtures heading into Christmas break.
Supersport have been the best side in the country for the past month, having claimed wins over Pirates and Sundowns.
They have now gone 12 matches unbeaten after beating Orlando Pirates on Saturday in the semis of the Telkom Knockout.
“The 12 games unbeaten is good but it could have been great because in two or three of the games we were very close to winning the games and it could have been two or three more victories,” said Superport coach Stuart Baxter after the match.
In two weeks’ time, Matsatsantsa will play Cape Town City in the final of the Telkom Knockout match.
Before the final, they will travel to Molemela stadium where they face Blomfontein Celtic on Sunday in a league match.
Baxter’s men have been playing well and are now touching distance from log leaders.
On the other side of Pretoria, African Champions Mamelodi Sundowns are playing catch up.
With four wins from six games, the Brazilians find themselves in the top 10, however, their four games in hand will be handy if they are to defend their title.
Sundowns play Free State Stars on Saturday at the Loftus Versfeld.
After the weekend’s game, the Brazilians will prepare themselves for the Club World Cup in Japan which kicks off in December
Having won the CAF Champions League, Downs have gain automatic entry in the club world cup and will face the likes of Real Madrid if they reach the semis.
Speaking to Goal.com, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane vowed to give fringe players game time due to the hectic December schedule.
The PSL will take a seven week break due to the 2017 African Cup of Nations which kicks off in January next year.
