Cosatu calls rugby protest off despite match not being televised live

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has decided to suspend their Saturday’s protest which was scheduled to take place at the Newlands stadium in Cape Town during the Springboks/All Blacks game.
Earlier this week, the union federation threatened to protest if the match was not shown live on SABC.
On Friday, the union met with the minister of sport, DStv SuperSport and Saru to discuss the broadcast of the game live.

Despite not being granted their wish to have the game live on Sabc, Cosatu was pleased that the meeting was a success.
“Cosatu has scored a great victory for South Africans, who in future will now be able to see national teams live on SABC, the national public broadcaster,” a Cosatu statement read.
This means tonight’s match will not be shown live on SABC. SuperSport in the meeting decided to put profit and greed before the interest and well-being of ordinary South Africans.”
Cosatu said it was unacceptable that only 20 percent of the country’s population could watch the game live on DStv.
The Boks take on the All Blacks in Cape Town tonight in a rugby championships match.
