Great start for newly-promoted Stars in Mamelodi
Charlton Sharks suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of newly-promoted Seetla Shooting Stars in the Mamelodi Promotional League at Muckleneuk sports grounds on Sunday.
The newly-promoted Seetla Shooting Stars began the soccer season on a high note when defeating Charlton Sharks 2-0, in a sizzling Super League game at Muckleneuk sports grounds in Mamelodi on Sunday.
Jack Maapeya and Simon Mashigo found the back of the net respectively to give Stars a well-deserving victory.
Maapeya opened the scoring in the 65th minute when finishing Tswanani Sadiki’s cross from the left wing.
Mashigo extended the lead in the 76th minute from the penalty spot to seal victory. This after Sharks goalie, Karabo Mathlogena fouled Katlego Ramogale in the 18-area-box.
Seetla Shooting Stars’ head coach Emmanuel Khorombi congratulated his team for the win.
“The victory encourages players to win more matches to come,” Khorombi said.
Although Stars won the match their finishing was poor as they missed several goal scoring opportunities. Tloo Kgomo missed the penalty in the 35th minute.
Khorombi said the team would go back to the drawing board and work on improving their finishing skills.
Sharks have themselves to blame for the loss as they played unconvincing football the entire match.
“We haven’t played according to our plan as our key players arrived late for the match,” Chalton Sharks’ head coach Sharks Matlobo said. He said some key players who missed the match were Davis Lamola, Calvin Rapelego, Ntu Mametja and Jan Matelo Matlobo.
Khorombi blamed the players despite the team had suffered 2-1 in the previous game at the hands of the Horse Football Club.
At the time of broadcasting online, Mamelodi Football Association had not released a fixture of upcoming matches and Sharks and Stars did not know which teams to face.
