SPORT: De Bruyn looking to continue where he left off
“I’ve been a Pretoria boy my entire life and I’m just excited to be back.”
After a stint in Bloemfontein, where he was VKB Knights captain, Theunis de Bruyn has returned home to Pretoria for the Multiply Titans.
And the 25-year-old hard-hitting batsman is looking to make up for lost time.
“I’ve been a Pretoria boy my entire life and I’m just excited to be back,” he said on Titans website.
“I remember before I made my Titans debut, I was sitting with my four best men from my wedding day on the grass embankments and watching a Ram Slam game. Two weeks later, I made my debut in the same competition, which is where everything started.”
De Bruyn came through the relentless Titans and Northern Cricket bloodline, having excelled at school, club and varsity, before eventually making his mark as a professional.
“I’ve got so many fond memories, not just with the franchise but at school cricket, we were really successful. With Tuks we went to the University World Cup – which we went on to win. So this place breeds winning. It’s part of your DNA,” he said.
The former Menlo Park Highschool learner said he was looking forward to new challenges at the Titans.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the head coach, Mark Boucher. The ultimate goal is to one day represent your country in all three formats, and who better to learn from than a guy who has played 150 test matches,” de Bruyn said.
The highly confident De Bruyn is currently on tour to Sri Lanka with the Proteas.
