SPORT: Sundowns fire blanks
New signing Andile Jali was unable to make a difference despite his experience in the competition.
Mamelodi Sundowns succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Togo-Port in Lome, Togo on Tuesday afternoon.
The defeat sent the Pretoria club to the bottom of their CAF Champions’ League group.
Ayi Hunlede’s 40th-minute goal was enough to give the Togolese side their first win in the group.
Downs played the match without Percy Tau and Khama Billiat, who have since joined other clubs during the off-season.
New signing Andile Jali was unable to make a difference despite his experience in the competition.
The 28-year-old midfielder lost the final of the 2013 Champions League with his former club Orlando Pirates before going to Belgium to spend almost four years with KV Oostende.
“It’s a good thing that I am back in the country and I am playing for a team that’s in the Champions League,” Jali said on Downs website.
“That’s the one thing that I want to win. It wasn’t nice losing in the final. I have told myself that my time will come.”

Jali said he was eager to show the fans what he had learned in Europe.
“I can’t say what people will see from me. They’ll just have to wait and see. They’ll see how much I have grown on the field,” Jali said.
“It’s good that I am in a team that wants to win every tournament they participate in. That’s when the competition for places comes in. That’s when you must fight to show how good you are.”
Sundowns have collected just two points after three matches against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, Guinea’s Horoya and Togo-Port.
The Pretoria will play the Togolese team in a reverse fixture in two weeks.
