Protea Ladies face off against north school girls on Women’s Day

A cricket match in celebration of women’s day was held in Hammanskraal on Wednesday.
The Momentum Proteas led by Chloe Tryon joined Cricket SA and KFC staff at Makgake Primary School to kick off Women’s Day celebrations with an intense KFC mini-cricket game between the SA ladies’ side and the school’s girls team.
Proteas coach Hilton Moreeng said the Women’s Day celebratory match was followed a cricket masterclass.
He said his staff led more than 50 girl learners through a series of batting and fielding drills.
“The aim was to expand the game of cricket among young girls and expose them to world-class female athletes as positive role models,” he said.
KFC public affairs director Thabisa Mkhwanazi says: “KFC mini-cricket continues to support and give equal opportunity to young children and, this Women’s Day initiative is no different. The focus is to let children create unforgettable memories of being active outdoors while doing something they love.

Cricket SA CEO Thabang Moroe said: “This KFC mini-cricket game is one we saw as a great opportunity to fostering an inclusive environment in which girls are grouped together to play the game they love against their heroes.
“We have a grand vision that girls who come to our events will continue to attend for a few years and when they get older, hopefully, they will want to play cricket.
“The motivational talk from one of our female executive members was to make the young girls aware of their potential in the new South Africa and inspire them to gain the confidence and leadership they need to reach their full potential in life and sports.”
The Protea Ladies kept the girls ecstatic and energised throughout the festivities.
