Former Bafana midfielder dies

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder John 'Shoes' Moshoeu died on Tuesday afternoon.

Former Bafana Bafana player John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu died on Tuesday afternoon after a long battle with cancer, his agent Glyn Binkin confirmed on Twitter.

The midfield maestro hanged up his boots at the end of the 2014 season while playing for Alexander United. He was the oldest infield player ever in the Absa Premier League at the age of 43, achieving this while playing for Amazulu in 2008.

He spent 10 years playing in Turkey from 1993 to 2003, where he ran out for Turkish giants Fenerbahçe and Bursaspor.

Shoes was part of the 1996 squad that won the African Cup of Nations, he was capped 73 times and scored eight times.

He died at the age of 49.
