Gauteng North Indoor Cricket’s junior teams did extremely well during the recent national championships in Kuilsrivier, Western Cape.

The Gauteng North squad managed to get medals in every age group during the tournament.

The under 11 team was the province’s top performers. They successfully defended their gold medal. The under 13 team took the bronze medal and the under 15 A team managed to bring back the silver medal. This team was the underdog in the tournament with a few new players on board.

Gauteng North’s under 18 team had strong competition, but they still managed to bring back bronze. Eventually 14 players of the province (of which three are non-touring members) were also selected for the South African Indoor Cricket team.

The lucky players of the group were:

* U. 11 – Corne Burger, Marcus Bakker, Karl Ziemkendorf and one non-touring member, Franco Smit.

* U. 13 – Rainier Diedericks, Jeandre Pfister and Quewin Nortjé.

* U. 15 – Tristan Naudé, Ethan Wentzel, Coenraad Pretorius and two non-touring members, Abri Booijse and Paul Barnard.

* U. 18 – Luan van Strijp and Dylan Jones.

Two managers of the province were also elected as part of the South African squad. They are Jenny van Onselen (u. 11 team) and Frieda Osborne (u. 15 team). Thirteen Gauteng North players were also selected for the Diamond Development team. These are players that have great potential in playing the game and are then selected to attend a development camp, where they will receive individual and intensive coaching in the sport.

The local players in the development team are:

* Benjamin Cronje, Luke Dreyer, Kyle Groenewald, Gerhard Swanepoel, Zandre Botha, Euan Bridger, Anthony Bester (all u. 11).

* Keagan Smit, Reese Cambier and Nathan Dry (all u. 13).

* Estiaan Beeslaar, Jarco Abbott and Jarco Abbott (all u. 15).
