One of the highlights of participating in theSPAR Women’s Challenge is the very generous goodie bag that all female registered entrants are given once they cross the finish line at Supersport Park Stadium in Centurion on 29 August 2015.

The SPAR Women’s Challenge Pretoria goodie bags have become legendary with some novice runners even admitting that getting their hands on one is a major reason for them entering the race every year. This year, thanks to SPAR and the race sponsors, the goodie bags are bigger and better than ever.

Within a recycled eco-bag is a host of fabulous products, including 10ml Clere body crème, Selati sweetener, a pack of Mandy’s wax strips, Mandy’s hair remover, Satisskin shower gel, Nivea anti-wrinkle Q10 plus, Mr Muscle easy gel, Vinolia soap bar, Ariel 3in1 capsules, Canderel sweetness, Nestle coffee sachets, SPAR Mini Bites, Futurelife smart+oats, Allsome long grain rice, SPAR Squillos chips, Provitas, Handy Andy Cream, 330ml Appletiser, a 500ml energy drink, Lamb & Mutton cook book and a Takealot gift voucher. But that’s not all. Every woman to finish the race will also receive a medal courtesy of SPAR and the race sponsors.

SPAR makes extra effort every year to ensure that the goodie bags are packed to brim with amazing products as the bags are their way of thanking the participants.

Jerome Jacobs, Marketing Director for SPAR North Rand said that they take this chance to show their gratitude to the thousands of participants for making the race possible. “Without the runners, there is no race and at the end of the day it is about them – they are the ones supporting the event and making our donations to the beneficiaries possible.”

Packing this phenomenal amount of products into 25 000 bags is a mammoth task that each year is handed over to the residents of Irene Homes. The Contracts Centre at Irene Homes is a registered Protective Day Centre providing a safe environment in which to serve around 69 mentally and sometimes physically disabled men who enjoy the social interaction and daily activities of the centre’s workshop.

The goodie bag packing started on 1 July and the team will work furiously to complete this massive task on time.  “Our residents in the contract workshop are hyped about packing so many goodie bags for the race,” said Florence Mesa, fundraiser for Irene Homes. “The residents feel privileged to be doing the packing for the SPAR Women’s Challenge”, she concluded.
