Sport Highlights, 24-26 July
South Africa's national rugby and cricket teams will enjoy most sports fans' attention this weekend.
With the Wimbledon tennis tournament and the British Open Golf Tournament now a thing of the past, the attention of sports fans will mainly be back on rugby and cricket this weekend.
Rugby
The vibe around a rugby test cannot go bigger than a battle between the Springboks and the All Blacks at Ellis Park.
Saturday at 17:00 the whole of South Africa comes to a standstill because then the important test match between the Springboks and the All Blacks in the Rugby Championship will kick off.
People from Pretoria interested in schools rugby are welcome to visit Loftus Versfeld on Saturday morning from 08:00 to 13:00 for the finals (u.14 to first teams) of the local division of the Beeldtrofee tournament for big schools.
Cricket
South Africa’s tour of Bangladesh is not going as smoothly as supporters of the Proteas expected. The home team has developed into a very good cricket unit.
They managed to put South Africa under pressure in the first innings of the first test and the game can still develop in a very interesting tussle. This test is supposed to finish on Sunday, July 25.
While Australia will want to sharpen their skills against Derbyshire this weekend, cricket purists are already looking forward to the third Test of the Ashes series between Australia and England, which will start next week on July 29.
Athletics
The Zwartkop half-marathon & 10km is in many ways a unique race. Runners will experience a little bit of tar, but will be mostly running among the horses and farm animals in smallholdings around the Zwartkop Lapa in Wierda Road, Centurion.
The 21.1km has a challenging hill but is otherwise mostly flat. There will be medals to all finishers and a lucky draw. Starting times: 21.1km & 10km at 7am; 5km at 7:10am.
