Pretoria SPAR Women’s Challenge Brand ambassadors Pierre and Juanné Spies are dedicating their participation in this year’s race to the Be a Hero Foundation as part of the race’s #SteppingFor campaign.

This year the race organisers challenged race participants to ‘Step For’ a cause close to their hearts when they take part in the race. Each of this year’s race ambassadors, including Pierre and Juanné Spies, took on this challenge and are using their public profiles and platforms to support initiatives who they believe need a boost in terms of awareness and public support.

Be A Hero Foundation raises funds to build schools for learners with special needs. The foundation currently supports two beneficiaries in need of new, suitable buildings to further the education of these children and young adults. Their beneficiaries are Club 21, a non profit learning centre that empowers and develop learners with Down syndrome, as well asPathways-Pretoria, a centre supporting and educating learners with moderate to severe Disabilities. Be The Hero Foundation supports these institutions by raising funds through organising events and projects to further their goal of building state of the art schools, as there are currently no suitable buildings to accommodate the needs of these learners.

“Being part of Be the Hero foundation is a massive honour,” says Pierre Spies. “We’ve recently bought a new self sustainable property so these kids have more stimulation and so they can add value to society.”
