Titans already with one foot in Ram Slam T20 final
Supporters of the Titans can start preparing themselves for the final of the Ram Slam T20 series, because it seems a foregone conclusion that Albie Morkel and his men will qualify for that game next Saturday in Centurion.
By beating the Warriors by 40 runs on Saturday, at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth, the Titans ensured they would play in the final of the Ram Slam T20 series on their home ground in Centurion this year.
This remarkable victory was the Titans’ seventh consecutive victory in this year’s Ram Slam tournament. This means that, after losing to the Dolphins in their first match on November 1, Albie Morkel and his men have not lost again.
Morkel won the toss on Saturday, and chose to bat first. Quinton de Kock (34) and Henry Davids (41) started the innings on a firm note for the Pretorians by logging 72 runs before Davids lost his wicket in the tenth over. However, it was the neat innings of 65 from 36 balls from Mangaliso Moshle that enabled the visitors to put 167 runs (for only three wickets) on the board after their allotted 20 overs.
Thereafter, Morkel used seven bowlers and they all worked together to get the Warriors all out for only 127 runs in the second last over. All but one bowler took wickets. But the hero among them was Clive Morris who took three and conceded only 15 runs in his four overs.
The Titans’ seven wins in a row means they now have 30 league points in the table – ten more than the Cape Cobras, who are currently in second place. The Capetonians are the only team that can still catch the Titans in the log, but to do so, they must earn two bonus points in their last two games, while the Titans may not get any points.
This weekend, Morkel and his men will play both their last home games at their “other” homeground, Willowmoore Park in Benoni. On Friday, they will take on the Lions and on Sunday, they will play their last game against the Knights.
