The Els Family will continue its support of South African junior golf as hosts of this Sunday’s Glacier Junior Series tournament at The Els Club, Copperleaf.

A strong field of Gauteng’s top junior golfers will tee it up in the tournament, including Modderfontein’s Marco Steyn, Silver Lakes’ Keegan McLachlan, Pretoria Country Club’s Dawid Opperman, and Woodhill’s Werner Deyzel, who are all ranked within the top 15 in the country, as well as Woodhill’s Catherine Lau, who is one of the top juniors on the Women’s Golf South Africa rankings.

This tournament has witnessed a few highlights over the years. In 2014 nine-year-old Rorisang Nkosi shot an 85 off the men’s tees on one of the most demanding courses in South Africa.

And David Meyers won the A Division with a 64 here in 2014.

Ernie Els has been a longstanding supporter of the Glacier Junior Series as well as the Sanlam Cancer Challenge.

“Strong junior golf competition was fundamental to my development as a player and I have so many fond memories from that time in my life,” said Els.

“I had some success, but the thing I perhaps remember most is the experience and the friendships gained from taking part in these events. That’s what I like so much about the Glacier Junior Series. It creates opportunities to compete and gain the experience of competition and performing ‘under the gun’. That’s what it’s all about,” the golf icon concluded.
