Titans still first on Sunfoil log
The local Sunfoil four-day cricket series has reached the halfway mark with the Titans still boasting at the top of the log.
The Titans are still four points ahead of their closest rival on the table in the Sunfoil four-day cricket series.
The lead stands even after rain robbed them of a sure victory against the Highveld Lions this weekend.
Rain ruined the third day of this Jukskei derby, played at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.
The stadium is the alternative home ground for the Highveld Lions. No play was possible on the third day (Saturday).
The Highveld Lions were already in their second innings, but still 38 runs short of breaking even with the Titans, when play was stopped on day four.
The hosts were dismissed for 206 in their first innings, with the visitors replying with 431/6, thanks to an unbeaten 150 from captain Henry Davids.
David Wiese added a fast 71 from as many balls while the pair took their partnership for the seventh wicket to 147.

This gave the defending champions a healthy lead of 225, but any hopes of pressing for victory depended on early wickets. However, the Titans were unable to capitalise on their lead due to the wet conditions in North West.
Stalwart batsman Rassie van der Dussen was involved in two key partnerships as the Highveld Lions survived possible final day nerves to draw the clash with the Titans. The right-hander hit an unbeaten 76 as the hosts reached 187/2 in their second innings when play was halted.
The draw was enough for the Titans to consolidate their position at the summit of the table after they walked away with 7.82 points. The home side ended with 4.12 points, but are part of a five-team group at the summit, all on two wins a piece at the mid-point of the competition.
The Sunfoil series is now suspended at the halfway mark for the domestic T20 tournament, which starts on 12 November.
The next matches in this series will resume on 5 January next year.
Ironically, the Titans and Highveld Lions again play against each other in this Saturday’s first match in the “2016 T20 Challenge”.
The game will be played at Wanderers in Johannesburg from 18:00.
