Titans strengthened their position on T20 log
The Titans are still unbeaten and well on the way to the semi-finals of the domestic T20 Challenge.
After six games in this year’s local T20 Challenge, the Titans are still unbeaten and well ahead on the log.
This is the situation after they had a narrow escape on Friday, while they easily won their second game of the weekend on Sunday.
On Friday night Albie Morkel and his men escaped defeat after their clash with the Cape Cobras at SuperSport Park was abandoned due to rain.
Although there was enough action to put the men from Cape Town in a commanding position, the skies broke free to cut the hosts’ innings short.
Afternoon rain meant the match had to be reduced to a 10-over per side contest, with the Cobras smashing their way to a splendid 115/6.
This was mainly thanks to Richard Levis‘ 45 off 27 balls and a sensational 28 off 8 balls by Rory Kleinveldt.
But only one over of the chase was possible as the top-of-the-table Titans managed 7/0 before it started raining again.
This left the umpires little choice but to abandon proceedings.
* On Sunday the Titans travelled to Kimberley for a clash with the Knights at the Diamond Oval.
The home team won the toss and sent the Titans in to bat first.
Good contributions made by all in the top order enabled the men from Centurion to record a decent total of 168 runs for the loss of only 5 wickets.
It was especially the contributions of Qaasim Adams (36 off 33 balls), Heino Kuhn (40 off 27 balls) and an unbeaten 37 off 22 balls from Farhaan Behardien that stood out.
Aiden Markram also did his part with a neat 21 from 19 balls.
When the home team walked in to bat, it was captain Morkel who took the lead brilliantly with the ball in hand.
Although he only took one wicket, his bowling figures were outstanding.
In his four overs he conceded only 16 runs. He was well supported by David Wiese (2/33) and Malusi Siboto (2/25).
Eventually the Knighs could just not build enough decent partnerships.
They were still ten runs behind the visitors (158/6) when they ran out of overs. The Titans went on to win the game by ten runs.
This weekend Morkel and his men will play two home games at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
On Friday night (18:00) they take on the Warriors from the Eastern Cape.
On Sunday they will play a Gauteng derby against the Highveld Lions.
The Titans are now comfortably ahead on the log and if they manage to win both their games this coming weekend, they will probably already qualify for the semi-finals.
