Two SuperSport Park spectators become first winners of R2-million one-hand catch jackpot
On Sunday two spectators at SuperSport Park became the first winners in the popular hand-catching competition which is part of the Ram Slam T20 tournament.
The thrilling Ram Slam T20 domestic cricket competition delivered in the double header in more than one way at SuperSport Park on Sunday as two fans held one-handed catches to secure a share of the R2 million prize pool.
Two cricket fans took magnificent one-handed clean catches during the televised game between the Dolphins and the Cape Cobras, resulting in them being awarded a share of the R2 million prize pool come the end of the 2017 Ram Slam tournament.
First catcher Andrew Scott remained in disbelief for many hours post his catch.
“I was recently retrenched so this money is most welcome and despite playing cricket in my younger days, this is undoubtedly the catch of my life. I’ve just started a business so I’ll need the money for that too. I’m extremely excited and want to thank everyone for this initiative,” beamed the Randburg resident who was sitting under the scoreboard at the time of his catch.
Unfortunately for 47-year-old Andrew, his celebrations were cut short as three balls later Dylan Joubert caught his catch off the same batsman. Dolphins captain, Khaya Zondo, hit a six to the other side of the stadium, which was caught one-handed by Joubert.
“I actually couldn’t quite believe it. I caught it off Philander’s bowling as I was sitting on the west bank grass. I haven’t even thought about what I’ll do with the money – perhaps I will invest it,” said Joubert, a Pretoria resident.
Post the second catch and still in the same match, a third clean catch was taken. However as an employee of the Gauteng Cricket Board, he was not eligible as per the competitions terms and conditions and thus not considered as a successful third winner.
“Congratulations to all our winners so far. The fans have certainly bought into this concept and are contributing to the hype and excitement that is typical of this extremely popular format,” commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) Acting Chief Executive Thabang Moroe.
The next game at Superport Park is on Sunday 19 November, when the Titans will take on the Cape Cobras. Terms and conditions for the Catch 2 Million competition can be found on www.cricket.co.za
