Letsatsing single-track unveiled at 21st Cycle4Cansa
The Bestmed Cycle4CANSA Mountain-Bike Championship at Sun City will be completed on a brand-new track.
A stunning new 8km single-track section in the Letsatsing Game Reserve will be unveiled at the Bestmed Cycle4CANSA Mountain-Bike Championship, which takes place at Sun City later this month.
The Cycle4CANSA MTB event is part of the Bestmed Cycle4Cansa weekend cycling festival, which is presented by Optimum Financial Services on 25 and 26 August.
According to event director, Gary Needham, Sun City have been hard at work sculpting a new single-track section inside the reserve aimed at creating more variety and a true mountain-bike experience.
“The new trail is delightful and presents riders with 8km of flowing single-track – an aspect that has been lacking in the past and which we felt we needed to address,” said Needham.
The Letsatsing Game Reserve borders the Pilanesberg National Park but still falls within the boundaries of Sun City. It’s a 700Ha reserve with plenty of wildlife such as Wildebeest, Impala, Sable antelope and Nyala as well as an abundance of bird life and giraffe.
“The animals in the reserve are used to human activity and riders will spot lots of game on their journey,” assured Needham.
The MTB Championship consists of a 25km circuit-based route which riders complete either once or twice. This means participants in the feature 50km race complete two circuits of the short course.
The course offers an amazing experience, both from a route and scenic point of view. Participants traverse large sections of the resort’s grounds, including palm plantations and the renowned Gary Player and Lost City golf courses.
The route is absolutely stunning and game rangers are on hand to ensure rider safety through the heart of the reserve.

While the Saturday is focussed on mountain-biking, the Sunday’s Road Classic offers distances of 103km and 70km.
The road race route is fast and flat and received stunning feedback following the return to the traditional route in 2016. Because it takes place on the Sunday the roads are quiet and perfectly suited to present a mass participation race in safe surroundings.
The Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Road and MTB Championships are seeding events for the Cape Town Cycle Tour and funds raised through the event are donated to the Cancer Association of South Africa.
The casino resort offers convenient and safe parking as well as a variety of family entertainment options once the racing is done, including free entry into the Valley of Waves.
