Lesar stuns the MMA community by knocking out ‘Soldierboy’
After his sensational knockout victory over the legendary Garreth ‘Soldierboy’ McLellan in the EFC80 mixed martial arts tournament, it seems inevitable that Brendan Lesar will soon fight against Pretoria's own EFC legend, Dricus du Plessis.
Brendan Lesar has shaken the mixed martial arts (MMA) community over the weekend when he knocked out one of the South African legends in the sport in the first round of their EFC interim middleweight title fight at EFC 80.
Several fighters from Pretoria were also in action at the event.
The inexperienced Lesar faced the legendary former EFC middleweight champion Garreth ‘Soldierboy’ McLellan and knocked him out cold in the first round to take the title.
Lesar now owns the EFC interim middleweight title, and immediately faced off with incumbent and on hand champion, Pretoria’s own Dricus du Plessis. When asked if Du Plessis thought Lesar could beat him, Du Plessis replied “not a chance”.
The new champion laughed in response. From the man who has demolished every obstacle – a clean sweep through the first season of the TV Show ‘The Fighter’ competition, a single loss as TF2 coach, and now the victor against McLellan – it is a laugh that rings with menace.
It certainly seems as if a fight between Du Plessis and Lesar will become reality in one of the EFC tournaments later this year.
The next EFC tournament (EFC81) will be held on Saturday, August 10 at the Sun Arena in Pretoria. It is already known that Dricus du Plessis’s brother, Neil, will be in action at this tournament.
