Big and skilled centre is Bulls’ latest acquisition

One of the stars of the Lions when they dominated SA rugby in the previous decade, he will soon join the Bulls after a few seasons in Japan.

The Blue Bulls Company announced the signing of centre Harold Vorster, who returns to South Africa from Japan.

Vorster enjoyed a stellar career across the Jukskei where he represented the Golden Lions and Emirates Lions accumulating 70 caps in the Super Rugby and 17 more in the Currie Cup. He is big and strong (1,86m and 95kg) and he made a name for himself as a brilliant ball distributor and a great defender.

In 2018, the hard-running centre made the move to Japan where he turned out for the Panasonic Wild Knights. Vorster has established himself as a no-nonsense centre who wields blistering pace and explosive strength which was rewarded in 2017 as he donned the South Africa A jersey against the French Barbarians.

Vorster is indeed a born and bred Blue Bull. He initially made a name for himself as a schoolboy at Frans du Toit High School in Phalaborwa, from which he played Craven Week rugby for the Limpopo Blue Bulls.

After school, however, he was recruited by the University of Johannesburg (UJ), for which he played in the Varsity Cup tournament before the Lions approached him.

“Attracting the type of talent Harold possesses is exactly what we are looking for at Loftus Versfeld. His signing adds immense depth to our backs and we are keen to see what he brings to the table,” said Bulls Director of Rugby, Jake White.
