Klaasen, Brand and Bosch the stars in Titans’ victory over Knights

The Titans won their fourth consecutive game in the CSA One-Day Series in Pretoria on Sunday, when they beat the Knights at SuperSport Park.

The Titans are firmly ahead on the Cricket South Africa (CSA) One Day series log after securing their fourth consecutive victory at home against the Knights in Centurion on Sunday.

A career best 153-runs from Heinrich Klaasen inspired the Titans to victory against the men from Bloemfontein.

After being put to the bat first by the visitors, the Titans were expected to take advantage of the home ground comfort. But after losing two quick wickets in the first powerplay, the Knights looked to dominate the Pretoria-based side.

Gihahn Cloete was caught by Alfred Mothoa off Jacques Snyman with one run and Theunis de Bruyn clean bowled by Migael Pretorius with six runs as Titans slipped to 15/2.

A 177-run partnership between Klaasen and Neil Brand stabilised the innings for the Titans, with both batters going over the half century mark.

Brand was caught by Snyman at the boundary off Romano Terblanche with 87 runs, bringing in captain, Sibonelo Makhanya to the crease.

Klaasen and Makhanya combined for another meaningful partnership, adding 97 runs to the board.

Snyman got the breakthrough when Klaasen holed his delivery to Raynard Van Tonder, ending a brilliant innings with the bat of 153 off 127.

Makhanya (37 off 34), was caught by Pite van Biljon off Mothoa before the bowler caught Donavon Ferreira off fellowman, Pretorius with 18 runs.

Corbin Bosch (photo – 4/69), and Neil Brand (4/61), were the picks of the Titans bowlers after claiming four wickets each.

With catches being the key to dismissal in the innings, the Knights missed the chances after dropping a substantial number of catches that could have restricted their counterparts.

Corbin Bosch (18*), and Ayabulela Gqamane (9*), ended the innings off on 341/6.

The Knights were off to a good start with their innings when the opening pair reached 50 runs without loss in the first five overs.

The game turned around quickly when Bosch caught and bowled Matthew Kleinveldt (11), and Raynard Van Tonder (5).

Aaron Phangiso dismissed Snyman (29), and Bosch returned to dismiss Rilee Rossouw (23) and suddenly the Knights found themselves on 82/4 within that first powerplay.

An unbeaten ton from skipper, Pite van Biljon carried through the innings for the Knights. Van Biljon stood unshaken, smashing the Titans fielders all over the park in 14 boundaries and four maximums.

Van Biljon held a brief 56-run partnership with Patrick Kruger who was caught by Brand off Ayabulela Gqamane with 22 runs.

Brand opened a vicious attack against the Knight’s lower order, leaving van Biljon looking for support on the other end. Brand dismissed Mangaliso Mosehle (22), Romano Terblanche (20), Migael Pretorius (21), Alfred Mothoa (0).

Bosch returned to dismiss Mbongiseni Mhlanga without any runs.

Van Biljon remained unbeaten, with 127* off 110, as Knights fell short by 32 runs.

Bosch (4/69), and Brand (4/61), were the picks of the bowlers after claiming four wickets each.
