Netball World Cup trophy tour will pass through Tshwane on Friday
The Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 will be hosted in South Africa this year and the official winners' trophy for this sporting spectacle arrived in the country last week, while this week it will be presented on a tour to the people of Pretoria, after which it will tour nationwide before arriving in Cape Town in time for the tournament in July.
Preparations for the Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 (VNWC2023) have stepped up a gear with the famous tournament trophy arriving on South African soil ahead of the highly-anticipated event taking place from the 28th July to 6th August 2023 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
With the VNWC2023 being the first Netball World Cup to take place on the continent of Africa, it was fitting that the trophy arrived into South Africa on Africa Day, 25th May, a day which is celebrated across the whole continent.
The VNWC2023 has always been considered as being more than just about the city of Cape Town and instead one for all of Africa to share, with four of the 16 competing nations which are from Africa. They are South Africa, Malawi, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
The trophy arrived in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal ready to start a far-reaching tour of the country.

Speaking on the excitement of the trophy tour, Africa Netball and Netball South Africa President Cecilia Molokwane said: “Let it be an African spectacle, showcasing our culture and our uniqueness as South Africa because we are a rainbow nation and to me showing that Africa can do it and women can do it is the most important thing.”
The VNWC2023 Trophy Tour started in KwaZulu-Natal, before moving to Gauteng this week, and then stopping off in Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, Free State, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, before reaching its final destination in the Western Cape.
The dates for the Trophy Tour are as follows:
25-29 May: KwaZulu-Natal
30 May – 3 June: Gauteng
4-8 June: Mpumalanga
9-13 June: Limpopo
14-18 June: Free State
19-23 June: North West
24-28 June: Northern Cape
29 June – 3 July: Eastern Cape
4-12 July: Western Cape

Trophy tour across Tshwane on Friday
In the meantime, excitement is mounting as Tshwane Netball together with their stakeholders SPAR, Telkom, City of Tshwane, TUKS High-Performance Centre, Aquelle, and GDSACR get ready to showcase the Netball World Cup Trophy to the people of Tshwane.
On June 2 the City of Tshwane will be a buzz and all the people of Tshwane are welcome to participate in this event.
The trophy tour on Friday 2 June will stop at places such as the Rosina Sedibane Sports School in Laudium at approximately 08:55; Netball South Africa Offices in Arcadia at approximately 09:40; the Union Buildings at 10:00 where the trophy will be presented to President Cyril Ramaphosa as well as the Minister and Deputy Minister of Sport; Loftus Versfeld Stadium at approximately 12:05 where a discussion will take place about the significance of the Daisy as a symbol of sports performance in Tshwane.
Afterwards the tour will leave for SPAR in North Rand (arrival approximately 13:15), where the trophy will be handed over to SPAR as a symbol and thanks for their support to Netball and Women in Sport.
At 14:00 the tour will depart for the Hearfelt Arena (arrival approximately 14:30) for a match in the Telkom Netball League in which the Gauteng Jaguars will be involved.
