Zwartkop Country Club becomes entertainment centre

The “new” Zwartkop Country Club offers much more than just a golf experience on one of the country's historic courses, after the club has been transformed into a modern new entertainment centre, where the whole family can hang out and participate in various activities.

The Zwartkop Country Club has been a landmark in the landscape of Centurion for 90 years and this club’s famous golf course is intertwined with the history of this sport in South Africa.

Due to circumstances beyond their control, the management of the club recently had to make the difficult decision to close half of the golf course. The damage to the course, especially the first nine holes, worsened every year due to constant flooding when the Hennops River comes down in the rainy season, and the management decided to intervene.

“The floods have always been a problem, but we have mostly been able to manage the damage in the past. Unfortunately, higher up the river and even further, where other creeks flow into the Hennops, several developments and consequent structural changes have taken place in the last 20 years, which have affected the flow of the river to the detriment of remaining natural areas such as Zwartkop Country Club,” Dale Hayes, owner of the club told Rekord during our visit last week.

Hayes and his fellow management members recently had to make the difficult decision to close the course’s first nine holes, but they also decided to transform the situation into positive changes. Therefore, it was decided to continue to maintain the golf course’s remaining nine holes, but to now integrate them as part of a brand-new entertainment centre, which was established on the site.

This entertainment centre, which was officially opened this past weekend, includes a deli, a beauty and hair salon, a fan park (newly paved area outside the bar and deli with big screen TV), a children’s play area and then probably the most exciting new facilities – the ultra-modern driving range, powered by Trackman, and four brand new TopPadel Paddleball courts.

The TrackMan range offers fun games, entertainment, detailed shot analysis, course play, and challenges for all levels of golfer, from beginner through to serious players and includes a feedback and data-driven experience that makes practice feel like a game.

Paddleball is a game that’s taking the world by storm and the new facilities at Zwartkop make it possible for individuals, families and groups such as corporate team building events to experience this exciting new game in a safe and secure environment at Zwartkop Country Club.

All these new facilities are available to members of the club at discounted prices, while there are currently very good special opening offers for visitors.
