Pretoria hosts entertainment festival

Pretoria will play host to a festival of entertainment when the State Theatre hosts SA's top artists, including singers, songwriters, musicians and poets.

The State Theatre will again stage Tshwane Comedy Nights, Jazz and African Music Nights, Nights of the Poets and Rock Nights at the Rendezvous Theatre in February. On 8 February, Tshwane Comedy Nights will feature comedians Nina Hastie, Tats Nkonzo, the rising comedian blazing comedy clubs and Kedibone Mulaudzi, one of South Africa’s top new comedy talent.

Pule, known as the white boy who speaks Zulu, and Elton Mduduzi Ntuli, who is known as the first Ndebele comic, and a storyteller of note will take to the stage on 22 February. Jazz and African Music Nights will feature the afro- fusion band Bhudaza accompanied by songwriter, singer and nominee for the best gospel album at the 8th Metro FM awards, Vuyokazi, on 14 February.

Contemporary South African singer, songwriter and guitarist, Jeff Maluleke, will follow on 21 February, sharing the stage with new kids on the block, Nu Bump. The last performance for jazz will be on 28 February, featuring Abbey Cindi, founding member of the original Malombo group, and afro-ethnic jazz maestro, Morayks.

On 15 February, Rock Nights featuring Saving Silence, a contemporary rock band from the East Rand, and the Andy Fisher Band, will play some blues and rock. Night of the Poets, on 20 February, will open with a launch of the Marikana Poetry Anthology by Dr Raphael d’Abdon published by Unisa Press and will be followed by a performance by the writer, performance poet, workshop facilitator and programme director, Natalia Molebatsi.
