Brits protests affect community
Brits residents are prevented from leaving the area as protesters have barricaded all entrances.

Violent protests brought life in Letlhabile, Brits, to a standstill this week.
North West police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said roads leading to various areas, including Brits, were still barricaded after service delivery protests.
About 1 000 protesters had blocked all entrances, demanding that the water supply be restored. A bus and a bakery truck were torched in the area on Monday.
“The police are currently monitoring the situation and four suspects were arrested on Monday morning,” he said.
According to a resident, all shops in the area were closed and residents had been stopped from leaving the area.
“Children have not been attending schools and we have not been going to work. The clinic is also closed,” said Nthabiseng Khumalo.
Mokgwabone said the community of Jericho, also in Brits, torched the tribal council office as well as the councillor’s house on Monday night.
He said the protesters looted two foreign-national owned shops.
“It is said the tribal council office was partially burnt while the damage to the councillor’s house is massive. The situation is calm, although a road leading to Brits is still blocked.”
