The New Hope School for children with special needs had its annual matric dance at the Pretoria Country Club on Thursday evening.

Pupils put their best foot forward, with the ladies in beautiful and colourful gowns, and the gents in suits.

Pupil, Leollynn Linton said he was excited the day had finally come.

“I am nervous, scared but mostly excited for tonight,” he said.

Teacher Melanie Badenhorst said the pupils at school had been through a lot in their lives.

She said a grade twelve pupil had undergone multiple brain and back surgeries this year alone.

“I love coming to school, and actually look forward to my Mondays,” Badenhorst said.

Linton’s father, Allyn Linton said: “This is an emotional moment for all parents and we are all proud of our kids.”

He said his son loved cars and had asked a family friend if he could drive their car and today the friend had let him drive.

Linton’s sister Althen said: “This is a night they will always remember.”
