Spate of burglaries hit Centurion on Tuesday
Officials report a high number of burglaries on Tuesday around Centurion
Police are looking for three men who broke into a house on DF Malan Drive in Lyttelton, and stole jewellery and a car.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said the three broke in and found the children, 14 and 12 years old, tied them up, and stole items before fleeing in silver Suzuki on Tuesday afternoon.
“They stole a TV and jewellery to the value of R 150 000,” Gumbu said.
A docket had been opened, Gumbu said
Several burglaries were reported on Tuesday.
Centurion Concerned Citizen’s (CCC) spokesperson Hannes Du Buisson said listed the number at four.
At 12:20, a burglary at Manor House on the corner of Glover and South streets took place. This was followed by another burglary in Turnhouse Street in Highveld.
A silver Polo linked to both burglaries was chased down and cornered in a shootout with security guards outside Cornwall Hill College.
Hugo Erasmus, head of the Lyttelton Sector 1 Community Policing Forum (CPF), said three of the four occupants were arrested.
He said Monitor Net shot one of them in the leg, security guards handed the other two to the Lyttelton police. The driver was still at large.
Braam Kruger of Emer-G-Med confirmed one man was treated on the scene before being rushed to hospital.
Du Buisson said another burglary in Albert Street, Irene was reported.
“The house was ransacked,” said Du Buisson.
Du Buisson uploaded a report to the CCC Facebook page indicating two more burglaries on Tuesday — in Belfast Street in Clubview and Wit Elshout Avenue in Heuweloord, Centurion — in which laptops and a PlayStation were stolen.
“All these cases were reported to police,” said Du Buisson.
