NU METRO: What’s new at the movies?
The world’s most loved talking bear, moms breaking free for the holidays, a local musical drama and fast-racing cars on thrilling adventures sum up the five new movies starting to show at Nu Metro cinemas in Pretoria this week.

Paddington 2 (PG)

Paddington 2 boasts a who’s who list of British acting greats who have lent their voices to the film – Hugh Grant, Ben Whishaw, Brendan Gleeson, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent and Sally Hawkins. The new film sees Paddington happily settled with the Brown family in Windsor Gardens, where he has become a popular member of the community, spreading joy and marmalade wherever he goes. While searching for the perfect present for his beloved Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday, Paddington spots a unique pop-up book in Mr Gruber’s antique shop and embarks upon a series of odd jobs to buy it. But, when the book is stolen, it’s up to Paddington and the Browns to unmask the thief.

A Bad Moms Christmas (16 DLV)

Our three under-appreciated and over-burdened women rebel against the challenges and expectations of the Super Bowl for moms: Christmas. And, if creating a perfect holiday for their families weren’t difficult enough, they have to do all of that while hosting and entertaining their own mothers! By the end of the journey, they’ll redefine making the holidays special for all and reignite their own maternal relationships. This hilarious sequel to Bad Moms sees the return of Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn, with acting legends Christine Baranski and Susan Sarandon joining the fun this time around.

Legendary car thieves Andrew and Garrett are nabbed in the act of stealing from notorious crime boss Jacomo Morier. Khanyisile is a talented Singer/Dancer/Actor who wants to be a star. She travels from her home in Nongoma to audition for a new musical to be staged at the Joburg Theatre, based on the life of Zulu Queen Mkabayi ka Jama. After a couple of detours, Khanyi lands a role in the chorus and catches the eye of the best-looking dancer in the show, charming soap star Luyanda. Will she be able to keep up with her more seasoned fellow performers, avoid the jealous machinations of the ageing leading lady and survive the punishing rehearsal schedule to make it to opening night? She Is King features a powerful local cast – including Khabonina Qubeka, Aubrey Poo, Gugu Zulu, Khanyi Mbau and Mandisa Nduna.

When a foursome “borrows” a car for one night of fun, what starts as a wild joy ride turns into a nightmare. After a violent crash, they discover that being stuck at the bottom of a ravine in an overturned car is the least of their problems. The psychotic owner of the car that they stole has them in his crosshairs and will stop at nothing to get both the car and its contents back.
