Pretorians celebrate love for gin at east festival

Pretoria-based gin distillers, amongst others were given the opportunity to showcase their gins.

Pretoria gin lovers flocked to the Fire and Wine venue in the east of Pretoria to celebrate their love for the classic drink on Saturday afternoon.
Attendees were treated to an array of locally made gins at the event.
SA Gin Society’s Wayne Burrow said their goal with the gin festivals was to showcase South African gins.
“Quite a few of these distillers are from Pretoria,” he said.
With over a thousand online tickets sold and walk-ins also welcome, Burrow said they wanted people to come and enjoy the gin and the food trucks at the festival.
The overall goal, however, was to ensure that people enjoyed themselves and had a good time.
“You listen to music from great DJs, enjoy the gin and food, and just have a beautiful day out,” Burrow said.
The festival marked its fourth year and its first-ever in Pretoria.
The Pretoria festival is followed by festivals  in Bloemfontein and the Eastern Cape.
Burrow said their biggest festivals would be later in the year in Johannesburg and later in Ballito.
Schweppes was also at the event to showcase their two new latest tonic water flavours – mojito and tropical sunset.
