Big 5 Safari at Black Rhino Game Lodge

Spanning across 55 000 hectares, Pilanesberg National Park is one of South Africa’s most exciting Big 5 safari destinations.

Located in an old Tamboti forest of the malaria-free Pilanesberg National Park, just 30 kilometers from the Sun City Resort and a little under two and a half hours from Pretoria, is the family-friendly Black Rhino Game Lodge.

Spanning across 55 000 hectares, Pilanesberg National Park is one of South Africa’s most exciting Big 5 safari destinations. The park sits on an ancient volcanic crater and offers sanctuary to an abundance of wildlife – as many as 7 000 animals and 300 migrant and resident bird species. The park has six bird hides that are positioned in top bird watching areas, offering travellers incredible photographic opportunities.

Black Rhino Game Lodge boasts fourteen luxurious suites that are equipped with open plan en-suite bathrooms, private outdoor showers, minibars, air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, televisions and private patios that overlooks the bushveld.

The four family suites are situated at a satellite camp approximately 700 meters from the Main Lodge, offering families exclusivity. The camp has its own swimming pool and central lounge area with television.

The guest facilities are exceptional and include a restaurant, bar, outdoor boma, open-plan lounge and dining areas, a swimming pool and viewing deck that overlooks a busy waterhole. The lodge also offers a laundry service and wifi connectivity.

The safari experience is unlike that which day visitors to the park get to experience. Game drives take place at dawn and dusk, affording guests a headstart to the day when the park is not yet open to day visitors and the experience of a night drive when the visitors are gone. Night safaris are great for viewing those animals that are more active at night and the opportunity to watch predators, like lions, on a hunt.

Other activities on offer at the lodge or nearby include bush walks, hot air balloon safaris, quad biking, cultural village visits, ziplining, visits to a crocodile sanctuary, segway tours, visits to Sun City’s waterworld & casino, golfing, rhino notching and bird watching at a viewing hide. All activities offered on the reserve are led by a team of professional and incredibly knowledgeable guides.
