Pretoria braces for four-day water outage — Is your area affected?

Pretoria residents are advised to store enough water in advance, as a planned four-day water outage will affect multiple areas.

Pretoria residents are urged to prepare for a planned water outage that will leave several areas without supply for more than four days as the city maintains essential infrastructure.

In a statement, the Tshwane Metro said Rand Water will embark on maintenance work at its Mapleton and Palmiet Systems, which supplies water to Tshwane.

The planned maintenance at its Mapleton and Palmiet Booster Pumping Stations is to improve their network’s reliability and efficiency.

It furthermore said the essential work will be carried out from May 29 to June 03 2025.

“This major work will take four and a half days to complete from Thursday, May 29, until June 02, 2025.”

According to the statement, the water utility has forewarned Tshwane that there will be no pumping from its system during the duration of the work.

“To mitigate the impact of a possible water supply interruption, the city is planning to fill the reservoirs, which will be affected, to over 80% a few days prior to the commencement of the maintenance work.”

However, the supply may be interrupted during the upkeep period, and residents are therefore urged to use water sparingly.

“Our technicians will also ensure the optimal operation of the city’s water sources during the maintenance period. Roaming water tankers will be dispatched as and when the need arises.”
