[WATCH] Savannah Mall flooded after Wednesday’s heavy rains

Polokwane was under a 'heavy rain watch' by the South African Weather Service

POLOKWANE – Late last night, 3 January, a warning went out to motorists not to travel in the Polokwane area due to flooding.

This, after heavy rains ravaged the city for most of the day leaving places like Savannah Mall, flooded.

In a video circulating on social media, taken on Wednesday night, a man can be seen walking through ankle deep water in the mall’s banking area which is seen covered with water.

Flooding occurred in other parts of Polokwane too, with more than 60mm of rain reported.

Savannah Mall says they are open as most shops were unaffected and that trade will continue unchanged.

“The banking mall and surrounding areas were affected and as soon as the clean up has been completed, trade will resume as normal,” a statement read.

Rain has been forecast for today with a 30% chance expected and motorists are advised to drive with caution in the city as some roads are still flooded.
