7 suspects arrested, drugs seized in Seshego
Police arrested seven suspects and seized drugs, ammunition and illicit cigarettes during two intelligence-driven operations in Seshego.
POLOKWANE – Seven suspects have been arrested and various exhibits seized during two successful operations conducted by members of the Public Order Police (POP) in the Ga-Hlahla Village and surrounding areas within the Seshego policing precinct, Capricorn District, on Saturday, August 22.
The operations, which were intelligence-driven and aimed at disrupting criminal activities while addressing illegal immigration and the trade in illicit goods, were conducted following the operationalisation of information received.
First operation: Dagga and ammunition seized
During the first operation at Ga-Hlahla Village, a 33-year-old male suspect was arrested for the unlawful possession of ammunition and dealing in dagga.
Police confiscated six rounds of ammunition, comprising two R5 rounds and four 9mm rounds, as well as dagga and other exhibits with an estimated value of R150 000.
Three additional suspects, comprising two males and one female aged between 27 and 33, were arrested for alleged contravention of the Immigration Act relating to illegal immigration. The three suspects are nationals of Eswatini.
Second operation: Illicit cigarettes and drugs recovered
In a separate operation conducted by the same members within the Seshego policing area, a 35-year-old foreign male was arrested for the possession and dealing in illicit cigarettes. Police recovered illicit cigarettes valued at R850.
A 31-year-old male was also arrested for the possession and dealing in dagga and drugs. Police recovered undisclosed cash, dagga with an estimated value of R30 000, and other drugs estimated at R500.
A vehicle with a GP registration number, believed to be linked to the offence, was also seized. The vehicle is estimated to be worth R90 000.
Another 35-year-old male was arrested for police interference during the operation.
Court appearance
All seven suspects were detained at Seshego Police Station, where the exhibits were handed over for further investigation.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court today (August 24).
