Robbers pose as prostitutes

Two men were assaulted and robbed in separate incidents after they allegedly made use of the services of prostitutes in Ladanna

over the weekend.

Capt Mohlaka Mashiane, Westenburg police spokesperson said on Saturday evening, a man who was reportedly drinking at a liquor outlet in Ladanna seemingly decided to make use of the services of a prostitute.

“It was reported that the man was taken to a room outside Ladanna where the service was to be rendered. At the room, someone knocked on the door and without asking who it was, the woman opened the door. Two men entered the room, assaulted the man and took his belongings, which included money, a cell phone and tekkies,” Mashiane said. A case of house robbery and assault was opened at the Westenburg police station regarding this incident, he added.

Also on Saturday earlier in the day, another man who was also reportedly drinking at a liquor outlet in Ladanna had a similar experience.

Mashiane said the man, who was also in the company of a woman purported to be a prostitute, was taken to the same spot. “Before entering the room the man was approached by two unknown men who demanded money. When he said he had no money, he was assaulted and also robbed of money, a cell phone and his tekkies,” Mashiane said. A case of house robbery and assault is also being investigated in this regard.

Following further investigation, the police arrested two women suspected of being prostitutes for being in possession of suspected stolen goods, which, according to Mashiane, included the two men’s belongings. A man was also arrested regarding both assaults, as well as the robberies.

“We are still looking for another suspect connected to the assaults and robberies and we appeal to residents not to make use of the services of ‘ladies of the night’, in the interest of their own safety,” Mashiane concluded.
