Manager uses dog’s bite as a tool to motivate workers

Workers are "motivated" to work by threats of being bitten by the site manager's dog.

Workers at the building site of a new shopping centre in Lebowakgomo say if they do not work fast enough according to the site manager, they are “motivated” to do so by threats of being bitten by the site manager’s dog.

The site manager allegedly takes his dog with him to the site and reportedly sets it on the workers when he is not happy with their performance.

According to a source several workers have been bitten by the dog, but they were afraid they would lose their jobs if they reported the matter to the police.

On Friday the 51-year-old site manager allegedly set his dog on a 26-year-old man from Lebowakgomo. The man was taken to the nearest hospital after sustaining several injuries on his leg. Capt Mamhaswa Seabi, Lebowakgomo police spokesperson, said a case of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm was being investigated.

“The suspect was arrested on Friday and he appeared before the Thabamoopo magistrate’s court on Monday. He was released on R500 bail and the case was postponed to October 4,” Seabi said.

The police appealed to anyone who may have been a victim of a similar incident to come forward with information to their nearest police station.
