THOGWANENG – Partnership between local business and government can go a long way in developing the province and improving the lives of many.

This was proved when water and environmental affairs deputy minister, Rejoice Mabudafhasi, and BB Auto donated a luxury vehicle to the Siloe School for the Blind last Friday.

Mabudafhasi was fulfilling a promise made during a visit to the school last July.

She said her department needed R40 000 in order to donate the vehicle and BB Auto made it possible when they donated R45 000 to this cause. “The school should take care of the vehicle and no one should use it for the benefit of any individual,” she added.

Apart from the vehicle that was donated, the school also received 100 blankets from MTN, Anglo Platinum repaired the school kitchen’s broken cupboards and Polokwane Chemical Supplies donated 40 trees to be planted.

Rand Water donated R200 000 last July, with Polokwane Municipality donating R30 000 last week. The Limpopo First Lady’s Trust donated R10 000 and Lepelle Northern Water donated 30 water tanks and committed R250 000 towards boreholes. “It is important to have water at this time of climate change. We fullfilled our promise and we still plan to help other schools,” Mabudafhasi said.

Education MEC, Dikeledi Magadzi, said education was a priority for government.

“If people have resources, they produce good results at the end of the year,” she said.

School principal, Ramokone Molepo, said she would make sure that no one misused the vehicle.

She said the school would use it to transport sick learners to hospital and staff to meetings.
