Mayor urges businesses to assist less fortunate pupils
BUSINESS people have been urged to assist matriculants who passed well but could not afford to study further.
BUSINESS people have been urged to assist matriculants who passed well but could not afford to study further.
The plea was made by the Capricorn mayor, Lawrence Mapoulo during a recent Back to School Stakeholder Interactive Session, which was held in Polokwane.
Mapoulo said business people and communities should support underprivileged learners to make their lives better.
“South Africa is full of opportunities and we need to support each other towards the excellent performance of learners,” said Mapoulo.
He encouraged parents to take an interest in their children’s education and to support the teachers.
“We must ensure our children are at school learning and being taught. We continue to be inspired by Dendron High School for their excellent performance in the 2013 matric results,” he said.
Mapoulo encouraged under performing schools not to lose hope, saying the municipality had arranged winter schools to ensure schools improved their results.
The principal of Dendron High School, Moloko Matsapola advised teachers and principals to work hard to achieve better results.
“You cannot expect better results out of the normal school hours. You need to add extra hours to ensure you get extra performance,” he said.
