Man arrested for drunken driving after accident

POLOKWANE – The Westenburg police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after a bakkie overturned on the Matlala Road near Westenburg early Saturday evening.

Westenburg police spokesperson, Capt Mohlaka Mashiane said the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and the bakkie overturned a few times. Mashiane confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the accident. There were 12 passengers in the vehicle at the time of the incident, including the driver, he said. “There were no fatalities and everyone including the driver were taken to hospital. No one has been arrested as yet. Police investigations continue,” Mashiane said.

• In another accident on the same day at about 02:00 the police arrested a man for drunken driving in Nelson Mandela Drive.

The man was travelling alone in the direction of Seshego when he allegedly lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle overturned near the Polokwane Place of Safety. After coming to a halt, the vehicle caught fire.

“No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no serious injuries. The suspect will appear before the Polokwane magistrate’s court soon,” Mashiane said.
