Centre welcomes computer donation

IKAGENG Drop-in Centre in Seshego received four computer sets, which were donated by Hollywood Sportsbook.

IKAGENG Drop-in Centre in Seshego received four computer sets, which were donated by Hollywood Sportsbook.

The centre approached Hollywood Sportsbook looking for assistance and the donation was handed over on February 26.

Daniel Khumane, Hollywood Sportsbook area manager said the store was keen to give back to the community.

“We decided to purchase computers for the organisation so that children can have basic computer skills.

We are still going to assist the centre in anything that will benefit the children. We do not have a community-based organisation, but that cannot stop us from assisting the community where we can,” said Khumane.

Johanna Mokoena, the centre manager said the computers would be beneficial to the children.

“The centre is very delighted to have received the donation.

We are going to teach the learners computer skills,” she said. She said the learners and the caregivers would look after the equipment so that they last for many years.

Ikageng accommodates 210 orphans and vulnerable children. The centre started as a home-based care in 2001 and later a drop-in centre that was established in 2006.

The children are served breakfast and lunch daily.

“We sometimes buy them school uniform and food parcels to take home. We also help them with homework and extra mural activities,” said Mokoena.
