Eduan Park is in the spotlight after two robberies were reported in one week.
What started out to be a trip to school on his bicycle for a Polokwane learner a week ago, turned into a nightmare when he was robbed at knife point by a man on the corner of Dap Naudé and Sevenster Streets in Eduan Park.
The robber made off with the boy’s school bag, bicycle and cell phone. The boy was uninjured in the robbery, but severely traumatised by the event.
According to Antuanette Pretorius of the Edwel community policing forum, the incident happened last Wednesday at around 06:15 in the morning.
Yesterday (Tuesday) another resident was robbed by a man at knife point on the corner of Diemeer and Kommandant Danie Theron Street.
This victim was also not injured physically, but badly shaken up.
Police spokesperson, WO Lesiba Ramoshaba, said the police were stepping up patrols in the area and urged the public to travel in larger groups early in the mornings and in the evenings.
“Criminals make use of the winter months when it stays dark for longer periods. They use dark and isolated areas where they can hide from unsuspecting victims who jog and ride bicycles,” Ramoshaba said.
He said residents should call their nearest police station with any information on suspicious people, vehicles or events.
He said residents should become involved with the CPF in the area to ensure assistance is just one call away. He said CPF members lived in the area and would be on the scene long before the police.
