FLORENCE Moloto (75) and Tintswalo Phele (5) from Semenya village, Moletjie, were found dead at their home last Tuesday evening after they were allegedly strangled to death.
According to Seshego police spokesperson, WO Mothemane Malefo, their bodies were only discovered a day later, after the neighbours went to the house to check on the elderly woman.
On Thursday, villagers gathered at the headman’s house to come up with solutions to end criminal activities that take place in the community.
They said there were criminals who broke into homes at night, and they suspected it was these people who had murdered Moloto and her grandchild.
Villagers said the culprits should also get a death penalty for what they had done.
Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Phuti Semenya, said they were still shocked at what had happened.
He said he had faith in the police.
“I believe justice will be done so that the remaining family members can move on with their lives.
“I would like to thank the community for the support they have shown and I believe that we will stay together until the matter has been resolved,” he said.
Molefo said two murder cases had been opened and the police were still investigating the case.
He added that the culprits were still unknown, but indicated that the police were determined to get to the bottom of the matter, and arrest those responsible for the murders.
