A WOMAN who is six months pregnant lives with the uncertainty of whether her baby will be born normal or not, after she was allegedly kicked in the stomach by ANC security personnel on Sunday.
Kate Mabye (23) from Mahwelereng said she was injured during a scuffle over the auditing process of the ANC Youth League’s membership. She said she was on the ANC’s premises in Mokopane to coordinate the audit when the incident took place.
Members were told on Sunday that the procedure used during the auditing process had been wrong, and everything would be cancelled.
“I went outside of the office with other comrades and sat down without any problem. Later an ANC security official came and ordered us to go away from the office. I asked him why he was chasing us away, as we were all ANC members, him included.
“The guard started assaulting me with his fists in the head and later he kicked me in the stomach. I am six months pregnant,” she said.
Mabye said she went for a medical check-up to find out if her baby had been harmed. She said the doctor could not confirm at this stage whether everything was all right and that another check up would have to be done later in the pregnancy.
She said she had opened a case of assault at the Mokopane police station, but no arrest had been made yet.
“The ANC security guard did not even apologise.
“The security guard told me he was not afraid of an assault charge because he would just go to court and pay a fine (admission of guilt), and go back home.
“I have sent an e-mail to the ANC Youth League chairperson of the provincial task team, Musa Chabane, complaining about the incident, but have not received any response as yet.
“We were told to come back on Friday for the final auditing process, but I am afraid to be part of it,” Mabye said.
Chabane and ANC Youth League provincial task team spokesperson, Onica Moloi, said they were not aware of the incident, but would check with the Waterberg office what had happened.
