The provincial correctional services office hosted a wellness day that included fun activities and informative presentations.
The wellness day was celebrated at the local correctional facilities in the city and kicked off with a visit to a local gym for a quick warm-up before the busy day ahead.
Officials then made their way back to the correctional services facilities where stakeholders offered demonstrations on their businesses and what they had to offer officials.
Senkhu Maimane, a social mobilisation officer from iCAP, explained the importance of talking about sex and practicing safe sex.
iCAP is an international health organisation that aims to improve health in South Africa and other developing countries.
Other presentations on the day included presentations from companies like Assupol Life, African Bank, Avuxeni Computer Academy and Virgin Active.
Officials were also given the opportunity to be weighed and had their blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar levels tested. They also received information about healthy living.
A special tent was erected where officials could have their HIV status checked and councillors were on hand to offer support to those who needed it.
“Checking of your HIV status is important as most people do not know their status or the importance of being tested regularly.”
